  2. Dancers and Friends--
This Saturday, December 19 at Silver's at the Wharf in Fort Bragg,
we're having a holiday salsa party with some hard-driving, fiery Latin music
for your dancing and listening pleasure with:
    *BongoLatte!
*and then, with a slight change of members...
    *Mendo Caliente* *
    * BongoLatte, as some of you know, is a new Mendo County band led by
Willits piano player Dorian May, with Dorothea May on bass, Jim Dooley on
trumpet, Steve Davidson on congas, Randi Covin on percussion, and yours
    truly on timbales and bongos.
Mendo Caliente is an expanded version--in fact the first incarnation--of
the same band but with Phil Montalvo on congas and bongos, Tracie Triolo on
flute and sax, and Marie Zion singing. As you can see from the line-up,
this is going to be a music and dance event you don't want to miss!
We'll be playing from 8:30 to midnight, but come early for dinner and
space on the dance floor. Silver's is serving food from 4:30 to 9 and
drinks until the end. We can't charge a cover due to insurance
considerations, but we suggest you give $10 to the band--or a few more bucks
if you're feeling the Christmas cheer--Willits and Oakland.
See you there--if enough people come and you like the music--which I
expect you will, we can get this big band happening up here again!

  3. English Country Dance in ELK
    Dear Community,
There will be an English Country Dance in ELK SATURDAY JANUARY 16
Greenwood Community Center . There has been a regular dance in English
Country dance Caspar for some years and it seemed time to bring this fun
form to Elk. It's a bit like a Virginia reels, or contra dancing, or
what you may have seen in movies based on Jane Austen novels. There is
    no tricky footwork.

"If you can walk and know the difference between left and right, you
already have much of the basic knowledge you'll need. Most of the
movements are based simply on a walking or skipping step. Dancers move
in a number of specific "figures", sometimes holding hands, sometimes by
themselves. Each dance is prompted by a dance leader, so that each
figure and movement is called in time to the music; you don't need to
rely on your memory alone to know what to do."...Mickie Zekley

I do lots of different kinds of dance and find this form particularly
friendly. Elk is the perfect place! Interested children 9 and over can
probably follow the directions. The music is lovely.

    dance leader Lea Smith
music Elizabeth, Mickie and Corwin Zekley
newcomer instruction 7 PM, dance 7:30-10:30
No partner, special dress or experience necessary
We dance in lines of partners and change partners after each dance.
Gender doesn't matter in partnering as moves are the same for both
    "leaders" and "followers".
A fun way to be with community, share music and get exercise
    potluck snacks at break
    optional donation for musicians
    info jcorey@mcn.org 877-3330
Hope to see you there, write
or call if you have questions
    Jane
I'm hoping for a good turnout so we can consider this being only the
    first, with more to follow!
